Movie Review: A Thousand Words

The title of the movie that I am going to review is “A Thousand Words”. The director of this movie is Brian Robbins and it is written by Steve Koren. This movie is played by Eddie Murphy as Jack McCall, Kerry Washington as Caroline McCall, Rubby Dee as Anny McCall, Kliff Curtis as Dr. Sinja and Clark Duke as Aaron Wiseberger. Duration of this movie is 91 minutes and the genre is Drama\Comedy. This movie used English as the language and the Filming Locations is in Los Angeles, California, USA. It is Released on 9 March 2012 (USA). Budget for making this movie is $40,000,000. The Production Co are DreamWorks SKG, Saturn Films, Work After Midnight Films. The soundtrack of this movie is “Because I Got High” that ios written by Afroman, Performed by Afroman and Produced and Arranged by Afroman, Headfridge. In 2013 this movie gets 3 nominations in Razzie Awards.

 

This movie is an interesting movie. It gives some moral value by showing unique ways. By showing some funny scenes but giving learning for the viewers. It learns us for not lying in our lives and to not underestimate everything or everyone around us, because when we lose them, and we realize that we are false, maybe we do not have a chance to fix it again.

The way the writer arranges the movie to be understood is pretty good, this movie is not too difficult to be understood. It can be watched for the people in all ages. The acting of all of the stars is very excellent. They act like the scenes of the movie are real. They act naturally that make the viewer get the sense of every scene. I cannot find the weakness of this movie, because this is a very good movie.

This story is told about Jack McCall who is a son of Annie McCall and Raymond McCall. However, when he was a child his father left him and died. It makes Jack was very angry with his father. Jack McCall is a success literary agent. He got married with Caroline McCall and they have a child named Tyler McCall. Jack McCall is a very talkative person. When he talks with someone he will never gives a chance for someone to speak. It makes other people annoy at him He always thinks about his work and never cares about everything happens around him. He loves his wife and his son but he never shows that he loves them. He takes his mother Annie McCall on a Nursing Home. He usually visits her on her birthday, but Annie McCall has been forgetful, she thinks that Jack is her husband, Raymond.

Dr. Sinja, who is a spiritual guru, has made a popular book. Jack tries to meet Dr. Sinja, he wants Dr. Sinja to make a book for him and uses Dr. Sinja’s fame for getting benefit. Jack says to Dr. Sinja that he is Dr. Sinja’s fans. He always read his book and he admires him. On the other hand, Dr. Sinja knows that he lies, because in fact Jack never reads his book. Dr. Sinja curses him. Suddenly in Jack’s yard there is a tree with a thousand leaves. Dr. Sinja explains him that when Jack says one word, one leaf will drop out.  The worst thing is when all of the leaves fall, Jack dies.

Everything happens on the tree also happens to Jack. When he tries to fell the tree Jack gets hurt in his waist. When someone is watering the tree, Jack get very much sweat. Because Jack cannot speak as usual he gets many misunderstanding with everyone around him.  When he buys something to eat, he cannot explain them what he wants. In his office he cannot say anything to make a deal about anything to anyone. It makes him loses his job. Unfortunately, the worst part is when Caroline thinks that Jack does not love her and their child anymore because Jack does not say anything to her. Jack tries to explain Caroline about the tree, but she does not believe him. Then Caroline decides to leave Jack.

Aaron, Jack’s assistant, is the only one who believes Jack. When he looks by his eyes the leaves fall when Jack speaks. Jack does anything to save his life. He tries to be a kind man. He gives some money to the church, helps everyone, but nothing happen.  He tries to meet Dr. Sinja, but Dr. Sinja says that there’s no way to save his life. Jack is very hopeless. He regrets everything that he has done.  He does not want to die when everyone hates him. He meets his mom, his wife and his child to say that how much he loves them. He gives a gift to some people to makes them happy.

There are three more leaves. Finally he decides to go to his father’s grave. He does not want to die with the hatred to his father, and then he says,” I forgive you”. Immediately, Jack falls down into the land. He cannot say anything again. Suddenly, his phone is ringing. Alex calls Jack and says that there is a miracle with the tree. There is many leaves and many flowers on the tree, and Jack’s life is saved by forgiving his father.
