NOVEL REVIEW: RAIN

In this chance, I want to review a novel, the title is “Rain”. This novel is written by V.C Andrews. This is the first novel in the thrilling Hudson series. It was published on March 2000, in New York and as a division of Simon & Schuster Inc. The color of cover is blue and it was designed by Jim Lebbad. This novel consists of 440 pages. This novel has been translated to many languages, they are France, Turkey, Poland, Germany, Netherlands, and Hungary.

After read this novel, I suppose that this is an interesting novel to be read. This novel tells about something that usually happens in our life, but the writer described it through the different way that makes the reader want to read and read. The writer described it well and easy to be understood by the readers.

There is only one thing that I feel as the weakness of this novel. It is about Rain, the main character of this novel, I just think that Rain’s life is too flat. There is no big challenge that happens in her life. I suggest the writer to make something big happens in Rain’s life and make an unpredictable way as the solution. It will make the reader be more interested in this novel.

This novel tells bout Rain, a pretty girl who lives with her family. It consists of Mama, Roy, Beny and Ken. Roy is her older brother and Beny is her younger sister. Ken is his father. They live in a place named Project. Project is not a safe place to live because there are many gangsters who roam along the street. That is why Mama saves money for moving, but Ken steals it. Then Mama gets him away from house. Roy is a kind boy who always protect them family.Rain and Beny have different way of thinking. Rain is a smart, diligent, and polite girl, while Beny does not. Rain cooks for family for breakfast, lunch and dinner. All of these things make Roy loved Rain more than a sister.

At the middle of the novel, Rain knows that she is not Mama’s real daughter, but she can accept it.Terrible event begins coming in that family. Because of her careless, Beny is killed by member of gangsters. Beny makes relationship with a member of gang. Mama decides that Rain has to get better life than she used to do, and there is the only one way to reach it. It is by letting Rain live with her real mother. Then Rain lives with her Grandmother, Roy decide to be an army, and Mama lives with her sister. In Rain’s new life, she just finds that everything has been served by the maid. She has new amazing and an expensive school, yet she can take everybody’s attention soon. Even she gets the main role in school’s theater that makes her friends jealous. Rain gets new friend, Audrey, whom is very kind. Corbette, who also plays in school’s theater, try to close with Rain because he thinks that Rain is different with other girls. On the other hand, their relationship is not longer.

Bad news comes after few days when Rain arrives at home, her Grandmother says that Mama is in hospital. Mama got cancer. Rain really shocks and feels so sad. She goes to hospital soon and meets Roy in there. They hug each other. Mama is still comma. Rain take Mama’s hand and cries, she tells that she is there for Mama. Then Rain and Roy go for looking for something to eat, but when they return they meet Aunt Sylvia that tells that Mama dies. Rain cries and cries with Roy beside her. After the funeral, Roy decides to back to his base camp. He asks Rain to go with him and get married, but Rain does not accept it because she needs to think it over. Then Rain back to Grandmother’s house and trough her life without Mama any more, and without Roy beside her.
